Not all of our favourite books for investors are about property investment. There are lots of business, mindset, and money books that will make you a more successful investor.
In this post, we’re sharing three of our favourites. All of them are important reads for investors. All three made a big impression on us.
Read our top three books for property investors.
1. Find Your Why: A Practical Guide for Discovering Purpose for You and Your Team, By Simon Sinek
There’s no point embarking on (what should be) a multi-decade investment journey in property, if you don’t know why you’re doing it in the first place! If you don’t know where you want to go, how will you know when you get there?
Simon Sinek’s previous book Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action invited people to rethink their entire lives (for the best possible outcome). This follow-up includes how to practically apply what you discover, when you ask yourself why you do what you do. Read it to set yourself on the path to genuine fulfilment.
2. The Secret Life of Real Estate and Banking: How It Moves and Why, by Phillip J. Anderson
This one actually is a book about property investment. And it’s an important one. Every property investor should read this classic, because it introduced the 18-year property cycle theory. Plenty of books have drawn on its wisdom since, but this is the original.
‘With its invaluable insights and practical advice, the discussion is aimed at both novice and experienced investors who want to know why the real estate cycle moves as it does, how it can be forecasted in advance, and how best to profit from this knowledge.’
Our investment strategy is based on the 18-year property cycle. It’s working very well for us and our clients, so we recommend digesting the basics. Read this book to better understand the property market, and the reason we recommend taking a long-term approach to property investment.
3. Broken Money, by Lyn Alden
This book ‘explores the history of money through the lens of technology’. It also ‘takes a distinctively human look at how money impacts the lives of real people, and how new monetary technologies shape the power structures within society’.
We lifted those quotes from Amazon. Our take is that this book proves why Fiat currency is wrong, BitCoin is the only workable method of global currency, and that’s exactly why it’ll never happen!
The conclusion? Buy more property of course! 😉
Read this book to better understand money, and its limitations.
